BIO
S. Catrin Magnusson’s practice involves an exploration of new materials and techniques. In her current body of work, she is investigating forms in clay and wood. Her artistic body includes sculpture, fiber, film, and painting with a strong influence of traditional Scandinavian handcrafts. She holds a BFA in photography and sculpture from University of Colorado, Boulder, AS degrees in Film Production and Screenwriting from MCTC, and a MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has shown work locally and regionally in numerous galleries and film festivals.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a multidisciplinary artist currently working in clay and wood. The work is sculptural and consist of black, abstract wall pieces with forms that undulate organically or interweave the painted square. I draw inspiration from earth sciences: geology to geomagnetism, and research into the interconnectivity of species and the earth. I interpret this research into an emotional, meditative form that speaks to memory and landscape.

Process-oriented, abstract, obsessed with manipulation/transformation of materials

Black- it’s beautiful, rich, deceptive,meditative, and reveals more about the form
